Hannah Orr
Instructor (Violin)
Hannah Orr began piano lessons at the age of five. However, when she began taking violin lessons two years later, she found her true niche. At the age of seven, Hannah began taking violin lessons at Indiana University’s String Academy, one of the world leaders in teaching the Suzuki Method. She also took private lessons from a former graduate student of Indiana University named Kyoko Tanno.
Hannah moved to Lincoln, Nebraska just in time for her junior high years, where she studied with Donna Carnes and played in her first orchestra at Scott Middle School. This experience led her to audition and ultimately be a part of other youth orchestras available, such as the Junior Youth Symphony and Lincoln Youth Symphony.
At Southwest High School, Hannah performed in the school orchestra all four years (2004-2008), in addition to performing in the pit orchestra. In the summer of 2009, she attended the Marrowstone Music Festival in Bellingham, Washington for a two-week orchestral/chamber music experience. Here, Hannah had the opportunity to play a masterclass for Brian Lewis, former student of renowned pedagogue Dorothy Delay.
Today, Hannah is finishing up her Music Performance degree at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln under the tutelage of David Neely. Hannah has played an active part at UNL, performing in chamber groups; acting as principal of the second violin section as well as sectional player in first violins, and performing in the pit orchestra numerous times.
Inspired by many great instructors, Hannah enjoys teaching because it allows her to share her love of music with young people, and give them the gift and privilege to make music.
